Each project has its own requirements, however we need to respect a process so that the post production can run smoothly:
1.Software
Please use the free (or Studio) version of Davinci Resolve unless specified. Make sure you name the project file the correct projet name.
ATTENTION: Do NOT use any other software. Do not use after effect to create videos or stabilize videos and then use them inside Resolve. We need to be able to hange everything later so every modification MUST be made inside Resolve.
2.Editing process:
2.1 Trimmed Timeline:
*Create a first timeline called “Trimmed Timeline“. Review all the clips and cut the interesting bits into the Trimmed Timeline. Ech clip can have more than one interesting bit so make sure you get all of them. Only the shots which are broken (for example all shaking, …) can be left out of the Trimmed Timeline.
*Example of Trimmed timeline:

*If the footage has different categories, or different cameras, its better to use video track to sort the different categories for later use. Here is an Example of Complex Trimmed Timeline:

2.2 Condensed Timeline:
*Once all the clips are in the Trimmed Timeline, duplicate the timeline and call the new timeline “Timeline one”, and push all the clips that are subpar on the far right (leave some space so that they are separeted.). If there was different names for the tracks, keep them and keep the tracks and clips organized. Example of Condensed Timeline:

2.3 Basic Styling:
*At that point find a music, we have a collection here: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1sr3UKe5RdH2A5zd5j8Pxkhy-4ro3B4uV
If you have other good music you can send us and we will add it to the folder.
*Try to create a story with the bits buy organizing the clips in small sequences.
*Stabilize the clips (a little. bit of camera shake is interesting in most of the shot, a good setting is .6 for the intensity)
*If it is an event, we should not see the people talking to each others, unless on a stage or if the moment is very beautiful, or if we can hear them in the video.
2.4 Color Adjusting:
Find a Hero Shot, and use it to make the other clip fit the same style.
Use the curve to create the right contrast and exposure.
Use the saturation wheel or the HSV method with gain and gamma (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EsZ_-kuifz0&t=1s), depending on the style wanted.
3.Editing Style
Try to be dynamic without being to fast. Each action should have enough time to be understood. Because I shoot a lot without a gimbal, I often repeat the shot several times, usually the last one is the best one.
4.Export
*If you export on MAC, don’t forget about the gamma shift: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1QlnhlO6Gu8
5.Delivery
!ALWAYS SHARE WITH US THE PROJECT FILE (DRT) AND THE EXPORTED VIDEO FILE
*Create a Google Drive file shared to bf.masse@gmail.com (all open is better). Share the .drp file and music file, and all the assests files (overlays, transitions, …)
*The name of the Google Drive folder should be: YYYY – MM – Project name [MyName Working Folder]
*The name of the .drp file should be: YYYY – MM – Project name [MyName – Resolve Project]
*Leave all the files in that folder, if there are updated version of the video or the .drp file, please keep them and just ad “V-X” at the end of the drp file, for example:
2024 – 06 – Guitar Concert [Benoit – Resolve Project]
